This is a great resource for people in search of detailed information regarding renewable energy potential.

 

3.  How to Read Your Power Meter (File formats: pdf or xls).  Produced by SIREN

This easy tutorial will show you how to read your power meter, and give you a chart to help you keep track of your daily energy budget. The Microsoft Excel version of this file (xls format) has built in formulas that will help you track how well you are sticking to your energy budget.

This is an incredible resource that illustrates how much pollution is generated by your electricity provider. Just type in your zip code to see what sources of electricity are used by your utility and how much pollution is generated by those sources.

A website devoted to environmental and conservation issues in Indiana. Their Living Green magazine is available at Bloomingfoods.

Check out the Alternative Power and Energy grant (APE) and the Energy Project Feasibility Study grant.  The former is for small demonstration projects and the latter is to help produce feasibility studies for renewable energy projects.  These two grants are NOT for residential applications. The Geothermal Heat Pump Rebate is for residences.

This is an exciting and practical book.

 

16. Elements of a Sustainable Solar City by Solar America Cities.

This excellent document profiles ways to foster solar communities. A third of the document is devoted to financial incentives, which is of interest to much of our group. Many projects have been on our list serve before, but some are new. This is a good summary and outline of initiatives and innovative projects. In particular, see page 17 regarding low-interest loan programs in Ashland, OR and Aspen, CO. These cities are close in size to Bloomington.

COMMENTS:  This book is written by one of THE pioneers, revolutionaries and
founders of the green/solar/sustainable living movement.  He started the Solar
Living Center in Hopland California in 1978, which is now being operated
completely off grid.  His Real Goods Trading Company is one of the largest
purveyors of products of all kinds for sustainable living.  This book is what
the name implys, a source book for information pertaining to sustainable living
and the goods and equipment nessary or desireable to achieve sustainable
living, available through his company.  It's both an excellent reference book
and a "Sears Catalog" of sustainable living products.   FND
